Thanks to God and to the generosity of many families, this year the Faith Formation Program of our parish is able to offer to secondary students a more dynamic and complete approach to our faith through the inclusion of a Scripture Program. The students will be able to have personal contact with the Word of God through the most important figures, events, and concepts of the Bible.
Once a month, on Friday the students (8th grade and up) will get together in groups of four or five from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the Church. Together in groups guided by facilitators who will be assigned to them and will accompany them throughout the school year. The facilitators will be trained to fulfill their service according to the guidelines of the Pastor; their main task is to provide a familiar and warm environment for the students to have time with God through His Word. They will reflect upon the Sacred Scriptures, it’s fulfillment through Jesus Christ, and the connection to their own lives. Since there are so many noisy distractions in the world, silent prayer will take pride of place in the program, so that the students may learn to listen to the voice of God speaking through his Word in the Bible. There will also be a time for the groups to reflect upon the most important aspects of the text such as figures, events, and concepts which will be assigned at the beginning of each gathering. Since this experience is part of the Program, and therefore attendance is taken, on the week in which the Home Scripture Program will be held, there are no FFP (CCD) classes on Saturday. The students will then participate at any of the Sunday Masses to fulfill the precept of the Lord.
Taking into consideration that this is the first year that the Scripture Program will be implemented in our parish, if there are any questions, concerns, or comments, please don’t hesitate to call Fr. Santiago at the Pastoral Office at 734-3723, mail@olopsj.org.
