For Infant Baptism:
  • At least one parent must be a parishioner.
  • Or if both parents are from a different parish, they will need permission from their parish priest for the Baptism to take place at Our Lady of Peace & Safe Journey.

For Adult Baptism:
  • If a non-Catholic man or woman would like to be Baptized as an adult, they are first encouraged to meet with our pastor to speak about details concerning their entrance into the Catholic Church; in some cases a valid, recognized Baptism has already been administered.
  • All candidates for Adult Baptism must complete a course in the RCIA - Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, this course is meant to introduce the life of the Church to the candidates for Baptism.

Godparents / Sponsors:

  • A candidate for Baptism or their parents, must choose one (1) or at most two (2) Sponsors, or Godparents.  If a parent chooses one (1) sponsor, they may be either male or female; if two (2), then the parent must choose one (1) male & (1) female.
[Note: *previous practice or local custom may have allowed for more than two godparents, however the practice of the Church has always acknowledged two godparents, and no more.  A practical example for this norm is this; when we are born we have only two parents, therefore only two sponsors are necessary since they are, in a sense, a model of our birth parents.]
  • Sponsors must have a permission from their parish priest in order to assure that they are in good standing with the Church.  This can be obtained from the Pastoral Office/Rectory of their parish.
  • If a potential sponsor is an active parishioner of Our Lady of Peace & Safe Journey, they may obtain and fill out a Sponsorship Application at the Pastoral office.
