The Christian who dies in Christ reaches at the end of his earthly existence the fulfillment of that new life which was begun in Baptism, strengthened in Confirmation, and nourished in the Eucharist, the foretaste of the heavenly banquet. The meaning of the death of a Christian becomes clear in the light of the death and Resurrection of Christ our only hope. The Christian who dies in Christ Jesus goes “away from the body to be at home with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8). (From the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church)
Last Rites (Viaticum)
Viaticum is the Holy Eucharist received by those who are about to leave this earthly life and are preparing for the journey to eternal life. Communion in the body and blood of Christ who died and rose from the dead, received at the moment of passing from this world to the Father, is the seed of eternal life and the power of the resurrection.  (Compendium #320)

Administering Viaticum
In the case a loved one is near death, the Pastor may be contacted at any hour in order to administer Viaticum and to pray with the family.  If your loved one is at a hospital and is in need of last rites, please ask hospital staff to contact the catholic chaplain.

Pastoral Office Tel: 671-734-3723

Funerals
  • While not a Sacrament, funerals express the paschal character of Christian death in hope of the resurrection. They also manifest the meaning of communion with the departed particularly through prayer for the purification of their souls.
  • If you are preparing for the funeral of a deceased family member, please contact the Pastoral Office in order to make the arrangements to schedule a Mass of Christian Burial.
